Ted Robinson, 2009 NRCHA Hall of Fame Inductee

This year, Seven-time NRCHA SBF World Champion and two-time World’s Greatest Horseman, Ted Robinson, was inducted into the NRCHA Hall of Fame during a poignant ceremony at the NRCHA banquet held Thursday, October 1st, 2009.

A slide-show presentation reviewed Ted’s life-long love of horses beginning when he was just a toddler. When Ted was young, his family moved to the country to allow Ted to follow his passion. The family began a rent-string of ponies, and when not working, Ted could be seen participating in local shows. He showed in gymkhana and virtually every event offered. When Ted discovered reined cow horses, he found his calling.

As a young, budding trainer, he took advice from great trainers like John Brazil, 1997 NRCHA Hall of Fame Inductee. Ted humbly credits a vast number of people in the industry and beyond who, he says, were instrumental to his success along the way.

Tears were shared as Ted also credited the late Ralph and Mickey Gragg for giving him his biggest career boost by giving him the opportunity to buy a futurity prospect,

and Ted’s choice was The Great: Nu Cash. Ted’s son, Tucker and daughter Casey were both in attendance and held back tears to tell the crowd of over 1000 how proud they were of their father.

Congratulations to Ted Robinson for being inducted into the NRCHA Hall of Fame. It is certainly well-deserved.

Pepto Taz Owner, Netha Lester

I had the pleasure of sitting next to the owners of Pepto Taz at the NRCHA Select Sale. They were selling a few of their Pepto Taz two-year old’s. During that time, I learned that Netha and Don Lester of Canby Oregon are quite possibly the nicest people on the planet. Here is Netha Lester holding Chuy.

Their stallion Pepto Taz’s offspring have won in excess of 800,000! He’s quite a spectacular horse who is well-received by both the NRCHA and NCHA industries.

Prior to the reveal of Chuy the Chiweenie, I used a puppet named Ollie the Border Collie to capture the inner child of clients and horse show contestants for the purpose of this blog. Now that my newest member of the Jayne Wayne Design team, Chuy, has arrived, Ollie is taking a vacation from the spotlight. Chuy is a rescue pup from the San Francisco Bay Area who formerly belonged to a homeless woman. She obviously loved him as he is a wonderfully well-adjusted little dog. She relinquished Chuy (previously named Toby) before moving into a homeless shelter which did not allow pets. Many thanks to my client Dr. Barboni of Marin Pet Hospital and his staff for making this adoption possible.

Roo Hide Saddlery: John Burgun & Chuy

Chuy went cruising with John Burgun of Roo Hide Saddlery at this year’s 2009 Snaffle Bit Futurity. John was driving this flashy chic-magnet complete with the Roo Hide logo on the door. Chuy had to get in on the action! John was kind enough to give Chuy his first driving lesson.

Jim Carollo, NRCHA 2009 Int. Non Pro Finalist

A Central Coast local and long-time cow horse show participant, Jim Carollo, was a finalist in the 2009 Intermediate Non Pro Futurity on his horse Im Miss Be Haven by Ill Be Smart. Jim and his wife, JoAnn Carollo have been raising, training, and showing some of the highest-quality cow horses for many years.

NRCHA 2009 Open Two-Rein and Open Bridle Champions

You know you’re having a good year when you win both the NRCHA Open Two-rein and the Open Bridle class. That’s what happened to Kevin Stallings riding Shining Lil Nic and owners Janiejill & Bill Tointon of Boulder Colorado.

Ron Ralls | NRCHA 2009 Open Hackamore Reserve Champion

Two-time World’s Greatest Horseman, Ron Ralls (pictured here with Chuy), had a spectacular fence work on Solano Cat by High Brow Cat at the 2009 NRCHA Horse Show, Hackamore class, scoring a 218.5. That, in combination with his 215 reined work had him leading the class until Tod Bergen (also pictured here with Chuy) and Nics Black Diamond unseated them with a 217.5 reined work and 217 fence work to take the Open Hackamore Championship (combined score of 434.5).

Todd Bergen | 2009 NRCHA Open Hackamore Champion

The 2009 Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Finals was anything but boring, and not won until the very last finalist finished his fence work. All riders, scores, winnings, and owners are listed in the previous post below.

Here’s a recap of the excitement from the stands.

Todd Bergen drew up first in the fence work finals riding Smart Luck. They were leading the pack with a herd work of 214 and the high-score reined work of 221. Finishing a beautiful fence work, they appeared, for a mere moment, to be the unofficial, unbeatable champions. However, in the last few seconds of their fence work, Smart Luck went down while circling the cow–throwing Todd from the saddle. He was unharmed but understandably disappointed–as was the crowd.
